Long days, long commutes and after school activities can create mealtime chaos. Later meals usually leads to later bedtimes, tired kids and cranky parents. Meal planning is a great way to save time at the end of the day, but don’t forget about using your leftovers wisely. It’s winter here in Toronto and that means I’m gravitating towards warm and hearty one-dish meals. I’m sharing another go-to 3 Night Meal Plan using pork tenderloin leftovers that relies on very little prep and very few ingredients.
Happy New Year! What Is Your 2017 Sleep Intention?
Happy New Year! I recently wrote about the difference between resolutions and intentions. As we set our sights on a new year full of opportunities (and challenges), I encourage each of you to look at how establishing a sleep intention can be the catalyst to achieving your other goals.
The Benefits of Sleep
The linkages between adequate sleep and mental, emotional and physical well-being as well-established. A friendly reminder that adequate sleep will help to:
- improve immunity;
- manage your weight;
- retain memories;
- maintain cardiovascular health;
- facilitate alertness;
- improve attention span and concentration;
- foster judgment;
- enhance creativity;
- engage social skills; and
- manage anger and stress.

Intentions vs. Resolutions. Setting Your Sleep Goal for 2017.
I’ve noticed a trend over the last few years moving away from New Year’s Resolutions, to New Year’s Intentions. What’s the difference? When you set a resolution, you define a problem and identify the solution. The solution is often a rigid, and far too often, ambitious goal. You either meet the goal, or you don’t. This often leads to individuals abandoning their resolution early on.
An intention, on the other hand, focuses on a way of being. Achieving that result involves more than just one action, allowing you to work towards it in a number of different ways.

Sleep Regression in Older Children
I’ve been contacted by so many families in the last couple of weeks to chat about sleep regression in older children. Many parents told me that they waited to reach out because they thought it was too late to make improvements to their child’s sleep habits. I can’t stress enough that it’s never too late to make changes to a child’s sleep habits (or yours for that matter)! [Read more…]
Setting an Example: Good Sleep Hygiene
Do you model good sleep hygiene for your children? Is that even possible if your children go to bed before you do?
I was recently invited to sit on an expert panel to discuss how mothers can make health and wellness a priority. The focus was on nutrition, fitness and sleep. The attendees were honest about how these threes pillars are often neglected, how they have overcome some of the obstacles in doing so and what still needs work.
Lego Table
It’s officially the middle of Summer and the boys have been home with me for most part. Having a dedicated space for them to have some quiet time has been critical for everyone’s sanity. Just before school was over I took some time to carve out a small Lego table for them. This nook has undergone a number of transformations since we first moved into this house almost 10 years ago.
